Boardwalk Petitioning

“My friends and I had a great day petitioning on the boardwalk at Coney Island. We got about 130 signatures and were out there for just a couple hours. We also got to see the Freak Show and did some skating at Lola’s awesome roller rink. It was a great day. Totally inspiring.” -Eric

Thank you for your interest in helping Save Coney Island! Our organization is entirely volunteer-run, and we need your help. Take a look at the list below for our current activities and contact us at volunteers@saveconeyisland.net if there’s something you can do. And even if you can’t do anything, spread the word to your friends!
1. POSTCARD DRIVE!
During the summer of 2009, we launched a city-wide petition drive on Coney Island’s opening weekend that succeeded in collecting thousands of signatures encouraging the City to FIX the plan for Coney. We’re now planning a postcard drive to assist in our landmarking efforts. We want to collect an overwhelming number of signatures, from all five boroughs. We’re looking for more volunteers who can help with this; all it takes is a couple of hours in a location near you.

2. WRITE A LETTER
Write a letter to your local politician to encourage them to pay attention to our concerns about the future of Coney Island.

3. ORGANIZE
Help Save Coney Island find volunteers, pick up and drop off materials, manage logistics, improve our website, and enter data. Help keep us going. Email us for details: volunteers@saveconeyisland.net

4. FUND-RAISING

Are you a whiz at raising money? We’re always looking for help with our fund-raising efforts and are in need of supporters who want to hold house parties, assist in finding and writing grant applications, appeal to funders, and more. If this is your kind of thing, join our volunteer team.

5. CONNECT

Are you involved in a community organization with which we should be collaborating? Are you involved in an arts or cultural organization that would be a natural co-conspirator? Are you a business owner who wants to support Save Coney Island? Let us know– we’re always looking to connect with more groups around the city. We have many ideas that can’t be realized alone, as well as many expenses that can be helped by the donation of goods and/or time. We’re also always looking for friendly venues across the city to hold our volunteer meetings, so if you have a space you’d like to offer, contact us.
